The Back Forty was created by Will Westmoreland and Billy Pollina with one leading concept in mind: real change starts where the pavement ends, in small towns, fields, and family farms, where neighbors know your name and all of us aren’t afraid to lend a helping hand. Our name will be familiar to some. The Back Forty, is that last stretch of land beyond the homestead, quiet, unassuming, and full of untapped potential. The Back Forty is just getting started, now we need your help as we grow into our next phase of educating, organizing, and action.

Our immediate mission is to use local events, social and traditional media, to turn the national focus toward rural America. This is where our family farms produce everything from nutrition to fuel, and fibers to building materials. Rural America is where our food security is solidified, our national parks are protected, and families, both new and legendary, can grow. It is here that we will inform and educate, organize and activate.

By supporting rural America, we do what’s best for all of America. This isn’t just a simple concept, it’s one which is easily achievable, if we choose to work together. Our goal is to bring back a sense of community to America, and a passion for our heartland. We’ll strengthen communities, elevate rural voices, and transform even the smallest towns into powerful engines for growth and change.

Raised on his grandparents’ 640-acre farm in Southwest Missouri, Will’s life story is one of resilience, hard work, and deep ties to the land. A childhood farm accident left him with limited use of his left arm, shaping his lifelong commitment to rural healthcare and the challenges facing farm families. Proven Leader and Strategist

For more than three decades, Will has worked in politics, advocacy, and organizing. He served as a field director on the historic Clinton-Gore campaign, managed campaigns across the country, and founded Highlander Political Strategies, which has advised state parties, labor unions, and non-profits. Will also runs Highlander Ag, an agroforestry company in Missouri, giving him a direct connection to today’s agricultural economy. His blend of on-the-ground experience and national perspective makes him a compelling and credible voice for any audience.
